Scouting for Food

Scouting for Food is a food drive to collect food that is donated to local food banks.

The Scouting for Food event is usually a Council-promoted annual event where they may provide planning resources and assistance. Typically, they also like to track the amount of food collected and donated.

Food collections can be done individually or by the whole unit and then delivered to one or more local food banks.

The local council usually sets the date of Scouting for Food. Check your council website to see when your council holds its drive.

Scouting for Food takes place on two consecutive weekends. On the first weekend, Scouts distribute bags and/or door hangers to let their neighbors know about the drive. On the second, Scouts revisit those houses to pick up bags full of canned food, cereal, pasta, peanut butter, juice and other nonperishable items.

Service Project
Scouts wanting service project hours could be assigned tasks such as event organization, communications, pick and food delivery.
